David M. Scarpino, MD
Evaluation
All new patients are first given an introduction to the office and
allowed time to get acquainted and feel comfortable.  Privacy is a
top priority and protected as much as possible following HIPPA
guidelines.  The evaluation is thorough but informal.  The patient
simply has a conversation with the doctor and is allowed to tell his
or her story.   Issues important to the patient are discussed.  After
listening to the patient Dr. Scarpino will provide his initial
assessment and begin to formulate a plan with the patient to help
resolve the problem or symptoms.

Medication
Medications are not for everyone but are an important treatment
option for some.   Dr. Scarpino may prescribe medications for many
problems including for depression, anxiety, poor sleep, appetite,
pain, or concentration.  Safety and risks and benefits are reviewed
first.  Medications and monitored and adjusted over time to receive
optimal benefit.  Finally, medications are discontinued if not
effective or when symptoms have resolved.

Therapy
It is understandable that most people are at first hesitant to share
there problems with the doctor.  The value of therapy is that one
can share their most private thoughts and know that it is completely
private and protected.  The doctor's only concern is helping the
patient and will not violate privacy or make negative judgements.
Therapy is a process to improve understanding or insight, change
negative or distorted thinking , improve behaviors and resolve
painful issues from the past.  To share one's deepest thoughts and
emotions in therapy is a profound and unique experience.  Therapy
can truly change one's life.
